UGF Distance Learning's real-time interaction is based on an Internet conferencing technology called Collaborate Ultra, which allows students to connect to live class sessions from their own homes or offices.

The Collaborate "Virtual Classroom" lets students participate in a multi-point video conference with the course instructor and fellow students.

Collaborate Ultra also provides such interactive tools as shared applications, PowerPoint slide viewing, shared whiteboards, and live text chat. In addition, each week's interactive session is recorded electronically to provide a backup in case a student misses a live class discussion.

What will you need for Collaborate Ultra?

Collaborate Ultra is a web browser‐based app. It enables anyone to enjoy the full experience of an interactive online meeting, including sending and receiving voice/video, viewing and presenting shared content, and screen sharing.

Minimum System Requirements

The recommended Web browser for the best Collaborate Ultra experience is Chrome, but recent versions of Firefox (49+) will also work.

Specific requirements and tips are available on the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra web site.

Additional Hardware Recommendations

Hardware  A USB webcam with integrated microphone. A headset is optional--but is strongly recommended for higher audio quality.

Bandwidth  A broadband connection such as a cable modem or fast DSL connection. Collaborate Ultra is very dependent on a stable internet connection. If your carrier does not provide a stable connection for streaming audio/video you may experience connectivity problems.

Satellite internet or dial-up are not supported for Collaborate Ultra. If your internet connection is not adequate, you may need to participate using a phone call-in option.

Most laptop and desktop integrated webcams should be compatible with Collaborate Ultra.
