One of the functions of the Registrar’s Office, in conjunction with the athletic department, is to coordinate NAIA eligibility.

Although eligibility requirements vary by situation, there are a set of basic guidelines to know when looking at eligibility. These are only guidelines and all questions and exceptions should be discussed with coaches and the Registrar’s Office. Official eligibility determinations will be made in the Registrar’s Office in consultation with the Athletic Director and will be based on official high school and/or college transcripts only.

All Student Athletes must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits to be eligible to compete during that semester.

  • If a student drops or withdraws from a course and falls below 12 credits, they become immediately ineligible.
  • Repeat courses, etc must be factored in.

First Semester Freshmen

Must meet 2 of 3 requirements

  • 2.0 or above cumulative GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) 
  • Be ranked in top half of high school class
  • Minimum ACT score (18 Composite) /SAT score (860 Critical Reading and Math)

2nd Semester Freshman

  • Must pass a minimum of 9 credits during their first semester 

24/36 Hour Rule 

  • Students must have earned a minimum of 24 semester/36 quarter credit hours in the two immediately previous terms of attendance
  • A maximum of 12 summer or non-term credits falling between the two terms of attendance may be used to fulfill the required 24/36 credits.

Progress Rule

To compete in 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons of competition, student athletes must be making progress toward a degree. They must meet the following credit requirements:

By 2nd Season of Competition 

  • Must have a minimum of 24 earned credits earned

By 3rd Season of Competition

  • Must have a minimum of 48 earned credits
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA

By 4th Season of Competition

  • Must have a minimum of 72 earned credits
  • Must have a minimum of 48 credits that apply toward a chosen degree plan
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA

Junior Academic Standing (58 earned credits) 

  • Once a student reaches junior academic standing, regardless of the number of seasons of competition, they must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
